The Mount Vernon Animal Shelter is still set to close this year, but it is shifting to adopting out animals by appointment only.
Organizers there say they have gotten over two dozen animals adopted or taken into rescues over the past three weeks.
They still have 13 dogs and 17 cats that need a home, including Pepperoni and Bat.
Bat is a 7-month-old kitten who was brought in as a stray. Pepperoni is a couch potato motivated by treats.
