More sunshine will break through as temps get milder Sunday for Long Island

While the shower chances will be fading, the temperatures will be slowly rising. Will Memorial Day be the best day of the weekend?

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • A large storm system, the same one that brought us dreary and cold days earlier this week, is slowly pulling away from the Northeast. Spotty showers were moving through the region though the course of the day today. Some made their way down to the surface while others fizzled out as drier air was moving into the area. Overnight, the skies will fair partly cloudy while a cool feeling settles back down after a mild day. The winds will be diminishing overall as well.
  • Sunday has more sunshine that clouds throughout the day. The rain potential is very low to none as high pressure continues to move in, replacing the large storm system. Breezy winds are possible from time to time in the midday to afternoon hours, but it will feel more pleasant with temps on the rise. By Sunday night, the skies will be mostly clear with a cool and crisp feeling in the air. There will also be lighter winds as well.
  • Memorial Day is going to be the day to really be out and about all across the area. Expect temperatures near seasonal levels with ample amounts of sunshine. There will be a light but pleasant breeze along the way. Don't forget the sunscreen if you're going to be out for a prolonged period of time in the sun. The UV index is trending high.
  • After a pleasant Tuesday, another unsettled pattern will set up Wednesday across the region. Sadly, shower activity will return to the area that day, and last (on and off) through the rest of the work week. Next Saturday, the last day of May, has a chance for seeing showers and maybe even isolated storms, before the unsettled weather finally fades out of sight.
