A Somers woman died Wednesday after she was struck by a car while walking along the road with a friend.
According to police, 65-year-old Barbara Cannon, of Amawalk, was hit by a car traveling in the opposite direction on Watergate Drive North. State police investigators say morning sun glare apparently blinded the driver of the car, 64-year-old Carmelita Parulan. Police say Parulan immediately stopped after the accident.
Cannon was taken to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, where she later died of her injuries. State police say there have been a number of serious accidents caused by sun glare in recent years.
