Community members gathered at Waterfront Park in Dobbs Ferry Sunday for the fourth annual Moonball Kickball Tournament.
The event aims to raise awareness about Sanfilippo syndrome, a rare genetic disorder commonly known as childhood Alzheimer’s.
Over 150 children registered to play in the kickball tournament. Money raised during the event will go to the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation and the family of Jacob Moon, a 14-year-old who has the disorder.
Organizers expect to raise between $15,000 to $20,000 by the end of the event. They say part of those funds will help the family make home modifications that will accommodate Moon’s changing physical needs.
