The state Department of Health is investigating Montefiore
New Rochelle Hospital, saying that the facility violated protocol by
administering the COVID-19 vaccine to city and school employees.
The City of New Rochelle said in a statement that it began
rolling out the vaccine to city employees after the hospital gave them and
school staff the green light.
"We subsequently learned that Montefiore
misinterpreted state guidelines and, therefore, vaccination of city and school
district employees has been suspended."
The state is calling it an "egregious violation"
of guidelines.
"The facility is facing potential sanctions and
penalties for these violations and its vaccine supply will be reallocated to
the County Health Department," according to the state.
The one group of city employees still getting the vaccine
at the facility are firefighters, who are eligible for it as EMTs.
