A Hudson Valley rabbi and four other rabbis have been indicted on charges that they conspired to kidnap and force Jewish men into granting their wives religious divorces.
A grand jury in New Jersey handed down the indictment yesterday against the rabbis including Rabbi Martin Wolmark, of Monsey. Several of the defendants were among a larger group previously charged for allegedly kidnapping and torturing an Orthodox man.
The women allegedly paid up to $70,000 for the service.
An attorney for Wolmark says his client denies the charges.
