A Rockland County man has given hundreds of people the gift of life.
Pat Heffernan has donated blood 123 times. Pictures of the Monsey man hang in the donation room at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, where the staff knows him by name.
Heffernan has been going there to give blood every two months for decades.
Hospital officials presented Heffernan with a pin Wednesday, after he passed the 15-gallon mark in blood he has given to others.
They say that blood could have potentially saved 480 lives.
Heffernan says it's a gift that's easy to give and officials say it's particularly important during the summer months when donations usually dip.
