Monroe-Woodbury students will no longer travel to Newburgh for athletic games this season.
The district put out a statement on Tuesday saying the decision was made after last week’s shooting at Newburgh Free Academy as the Goldbacks' football game against Warwick let out.
Monroe-Woodbury says it's working with Newburgh to find other places for games and said they will reassess in the winter.
District Superintendent Elsie Rodriguez says educators have identified safety as the primary focus for the school year and said their “thoughts and prayers” are with Newburgh.
