Monroe residents say ongoing problems in their water district sometimes leave them without service for days.

Residents who live in Monroe's Water District 12 say that being unable to bathe, drink water or wash dishes is something that they have quietly dealt with for decades.

There are 42 homes on the well-water system that has a pump station in the neighborhood. It is maintained and operated by the town, and officials say major upgrades and repairs are already underway.

Residents say pipes were replaced all up and around the corner but that it really didn't help.

Monroe officials blame old equipment and infrastructure for the problem. They have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs and plan on replacing the pump by spring, but neighbors are skeptical.

“They're going to assess us in the near future. So we expect any year now to wind up paying $500 to $1,000 a year extra just so they can fix the water pump,” said one resident.

Monroe officials are working to secure a bond to pay for repairs and say water bills for homeowners affected will likely go up about $300 a year until it's paid off.
