Monroe man killed in hit-and-run in Newburgh

Investigators say 65-year-old Walter Weiser, of Monroe, appeared to be trying to change his tire when he was struck by a passing vehicle that did not stop.

An Orange County man was killed in a hit-and-run in the town of Newburgh Friday morning.

Police say it happened just before 8 a.m. in the area of Old Little Britain Road near Unity Place. 

Police say they found the victim next to a vehicle that was broken down on the side of the road.

Investigators say 65-year-old Walter Weiser, of Monroe, appeared to be trying to change his tire when he was struck by a passing vehicle that did not stop.

He was later pronounced dead.

Police are looking for the vehicle and asking anyone who traveled in that area Friday morning to contact them.
