Mom, daughter from Mount Vernon plead guilty to stealing over $1.5M meant to help struggling businesses

A mother and daughter from Mount Vernon pleaded guilty to stealing more than $1.5 million from a program meant to help struggling businesses during the pandemic.
Court papers show that Alicia Ayers, who worked for the city of Mount Vernon, and her daughter, Andrea, pleaded guilty last week in federal court in White Plains.
Authorities say they applied for 300 applications for federal economic injury disaster loans under fake company names.
They pleaded guilty to charges including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
They will be sentenced in June.
