A driver lost control of his minivan and crashed into a home in Hastings Friday morning.
Police say the driver, a man in his 80s, suffered from some type of medical episode before he crashed into the house on Brandt Street at around 10 a.m. It is unknown how fast he was going at the time, but he was coming down a hill when he lost control of the vehicle.
The homeowner was home at the time of the crash. While she declined to speak on-camera, she told News 12 she was in the living room and felt the entire house shake. She says she looked outside and found the minivan halfway inside her home.
The homeowner says she knows the driver, who is her neighbor that lives across the street. He was checked out on the scene by EMTs but refused further medical care. The homeowner was uninjured in the accident.
Firefighters say the foundation of the house's enclosed front porch was destroyed, but the rest of the house is livable.
