Bronx and city schoolchildren will benefit greatly from the new state budget, according to Governor Eliot Spitzer (D-NY). Under the plan, $700 million will go towards after-school programs, class size reduction, universal pre-K classes and full-day kindergarten. Spitzer said the new budget takes the politics out of school funding and the money will be given out based on need. The new funding complies with an order from the state's highest court, after it was determined city schools were underfunded.
