Just two days after two Orange County military families lost everything in a fire, they are already set to move into new homes, thanks to tremendous community support.
The community of New Windsor has rallied behind the families since their homes were destroyed in a fire Monday.
Officials say that the fire was accidental, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
Since the fire, GoFundMe pages have raised thousands of dollars for both service families. In addition to the money donations, the community has also filled up the military neighborhood's community room with enough items for both families to use in their new homes.
Sgt. Wilmar Lopez, whose home was destroyed by the fire, says he wishes he had the right words to show how grateful he and his family are for the generosity of the community.
All of the donations made so far have already been taken to the families' new homes, but anyone still looking to donate should head to the Stewart Terrace Community Center.
