Middletown Police Officer Evan Barone received the NY State Police Officer Medal of Valor on Wednesday.
Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado performed the honors during a ceremony at the Paramount Theater in Middletown.
Barone was honored for his actions in August when he was flagged down by a woman whose ex-boyfriend refused to leave her home.
Barone was shot by the suspect within seconds. Despite being seriously wounded, he fired back and struck the assailant.
DeSean Owens was sentenced to 58 years in prison last month.
Barone is the first Middletown police officer to be recognized with the award.
