Commuters received good news Friday morning as the Metro-North trains were running regularly again.
Commuters have had to deal with jam-packed trains, crowded platforms and heavy delays because Metro-North had been running on a weekend schedule after a fire in East Harlem damaged tracks.
The trouble began Tuesday night when the fire erupted at a garden center underneath the tracks. A center column that holds the elevated tracks was damaged, and crews worked around the clock doing repairs.
Temporary columns have been installed, and Metro-North officials say they performed a number of test runs to make sure all four tracks were safe and ready for service.
Final repairs are expected to be made in the coming days.
Metro-North officials say there will be speed restrictions of 30 mph in that area for the time being.
