There will now be new 'super-express' train rides for Metro North riders going from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central Station this October, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.

The announcement was made on Tuesday – and was part of her State of the State address in January.

Officials say current ride times from Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County to Grand Central Station in Manhattan can last up to 115 minutes, depending on the number of stops. The new express trip would be less than 90 minutes.

The governor says it's all a part of a $26 million critical rail improvement project along the Hudson Line.

"We also had to make significant investments in our signaling infrastructure to boost the trains speed...that was important. And adding brand new diesel, electric locomotives that are also faster and greener," she said.

Commuters on Tuesday at the Poughkeepsie train station were ecstatic hearing the news. Many of which say it's been a long time coming.

"Anytime I could get some place quicker, I'm going to take advantage of that," said Collin Peters, a freshman at Marist University.

Service on the 'super-express' trains will begin on Monday, Oct. 6.
