Cause of death released for Westchester woman in deadly Manhattan manhole fall

The New York City Medical Examiner says 56-year-old Donike Gocaj of Briarcliff Manor died from scalding burns with thermal injuries to the lungs and blunt force trauma to her torso.

New details have been released in Manhattan after a deadly manhole incident involving a Westchester County woman.

The New York City Medical Examiner says 56-year-old Donike Gocaj of Briarcliff Manor died from scalding burns with thermal injuries to the lungs and blunt force trauma to her torso.

The death was ruled an accident.

Authorities say Gocaj parked her car, got out and stepped into an uncovered manhole.

Officers found her unresponsive at the scene.

She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A wake is scheduled for Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Yorktown Funeral Home in Shrub Oak.

A funeral mass is set for 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Shkodra Church in Hartsdale.
