Members of ’Newburgh 4’ convicted in conspiracy to kill police, bomb Jewish center to be released from prison

Three of the so-called “Newburgh Four” have been ordered released from federal prison.
The four men were convicted in 2010 for a conspiracy to kill officers, bomb the Riverdale Jewish Center and destroy military aircraft at New York Air National Guard Base at Stewart Airport in Newburgh.
They were sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison.
In ordering the release, Judge Colleen McMahon called the lengthy sentences unduly harsh and unjust. McMahon, who presided over their trail, said the men were caught up in a scheme driven by overzealous FBI agents and a dodgy informant.
She added the real lead conspirator was the United States.
The decision grants compassionate release to David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen.
James Cromrite, the fourth defendant, was not part of the request and is expected to complete his prison sentence in 2030.
