Concerned parents and students attended a meeting Thursday night in hopes of ensuring that a White Plains school that has been open since the 1800s will stay put.
The Sisters of the Divine Compassion want to sell their 16-acre property on North Broadway in White Plains, which houses Good Counsel Academy High School, an elementary school, a convent and other buildings. The sisters notified the high school's board of trustees earlier this year about the decision.
Parents and school officials met tonight in the chapel to discuss the next step for the high school, which has been at its location since 1890. Parents and students said they are worried the school might have to relocate, or worse.

"We're just saying give us a little time to go out and find a place to move to," said parent Eugene Chiulli. "We understand they're the landlord of the property, and it's their property to do with as they see fit. But all we're asking for is a fighting chance."
Students were also saddened by the possibility of having to relocate. "I'm kind of sentimental about the property," said 10th-grader Jennifer. "It's such a nice place to go to school, and it's such a shame to give it up."
The Sisters of the Divine Compassion say they have been exploring options for the lease or sale of the property for years, and that the school must vacate the property by .
