A bill to renew mayoral control over New York City schools expired at midnight Wednesday amid the chaos in the state Senate.
The reins of power have now been transferred to a newly appointed Board of Education.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says for the time being, all decisions ranging from policy to personnel may go before attorneys. He hopes to regain control of New York City schools by the fall.
