Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled a $150 million plan Monday to revamp schools citywide.
The school renewal program will help 94 struggling public schools across the city. The mayor says the city will give all of those schools the resources they need to start new after-school programs and add an extra hour to the school day.
They will also be able to increase professional training for teachers and get parents more involved at school. This community school model will provide mental and social services for the students and their families.
The mayor says all 94 schools will be closely monitored for three years to make sure they are meeting all requirements. If they don't show improvement after those three years, they could be shut down.
