The outgoing Mount Vernon mayor delivered his farewell address last night.
Mayor Ernie Davis spoke last night at a special meeting of the Mount Vernon City Council. Davis said the city must still work to improve education, jobs and to lower taxes.
Davis has served as mayor for a total of four terms over the years.
He lost the democratic primary in September, paving the way for challenger Richard Thomas to win the November general election.
Thomas will be sworn in as the new mayor at Mount Vernon High School on New Year's Day.
