Residents at Palisade Towers are still without gas. Yonkers city officials said the leak is affecting all eight buildings. In the meantime, boilers for hot water have been set up outside the buildings.

Volunteers are still giving out food, water and laundry cards to those who are affected.

Some residents told News 12 they are taking this day by day, but are starting to feel the strain of not being able to use gas.

“We’re all just taking it like a family,” said Luis Soto, a resident of the building.

For some residents, the priority right now is to figure out ways to adapt without it.

“I know that everybody’s trying to get used to everything that’s going on right now,” Soto said.

Some residents said the situation has been frustrating, especially over a holiday weekend.

Volunteers are even changing their holiday weekend plans to be able to help.

But they’re grateful for the support and food donations from local businesses and the community.

“You learn to adapt to everything that happened. If not, you’re going to be frustrated,” said Sharon Grant, a resident of the building.

Volunteers and local businesses have been handing out food and water to residents.

Now, residents will have help with laundry.

“We’re going to be distributing by household laundry cards so that they can go outside of the property to do their laundry,” said City Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy.

Residents said the food and laundry card giveaways have been helpful for their families.

Yonkers officials are hoping to continue this into next week.

“I feel like it’s helped out so many families. It’s helped out my family and I have a family of four,” Soto said.

City officials said local businesses will be handing out about 500 breakfast sandwiches and other food to residents on Saturday morning. The hope is to be able to continue to do this until the gas leak is resolved.
