Members provide protection at sea alongside the Navy.
The Marines' motto is "Once a Marine, Always a Marine," so if you know one you can mark the day by thanking them for their service.
Clarkstown police posted a heartfelt message to their Twitter page thanking service members for their service and sacrifice.
Today is also National Forget Me Not Day, which reminds Americans of the toll of military service and raises funds for injured soldiers.
