Police say a man was stabbed Monday afternoon on a busy walking trail just feet away from downtown Dobbs Ferry.

Investigators say the attack happened about 3:30 p.m. on the Old Croton Aqueduct, just north of Walnut Street.

They say two men got into a verbal altercation Tuesday and one of the men stabbed the other man in the chest with a knife. The suspect then ran up the trail heading north.
Investigators say the victim is a Dobbs Ferry man in his 30s. His name has not been released but they say he was actually able to walk to his home not far from the trail and call for help. He was later taken to Westchester Medical Center.
Dobbs Ferry police along with state and county police launched a manhunt. County police took up their helicopter to search for the suspect while state police dogs were used to try to track a scent.

Irvington schools were temporarily placed on lockout, and Mercer College was temporarily cleared as a precaution.

People in the area were a bit shaken saying normally it's a pretty quiet area. "It's actually a really nice area I would never expect something like this to happen. It's very safe usually, at least that's what I thought," says Arian Rust, of Dobbs Ferry.

While police say there's no threat to the community, they're asking people to be on the lookout.
