A manhole explosion in downtown Yonkers caused a scare Monday when smoke and flames shot out from underground.Con Edison says a primary power line under South Broadway fizzled out, causing loud propping sounds and the explosion. Crews also found other smoking manholes. Officers blocked off the street while the utility fixed the problem.Firefighters checked air quality in nearby buildings to make sure the problem was contained.
