An elderly man jumped off the Tappan Zee Bridge Thursday night, but survived the fall and was rescued by a bystander, police say.
Police arrived on the scene at around 3 a.m. after receiving calls from witnesses who noticed a car parked on the bridge with the keys still in the ignition. Authorities say a suicide note was attached to the car.
An hour later, a boater spotted a man in the water who was calling for help two miles south of the bridge.
The 62-year-old man from Stamford, Conn., was rescued and taken to Westchester Medical Center. Police say his injuries are not life threatening.
