The man accused of attacking a 58-year-old woman inside a Middletown Catholic church pleaded not guilty Friday to two felony counts.
John Petry is charged with attempted rape and sex abuse for allegedly attacking a woman inside St. Joseph's Church on May 16. According to police, the woman fought back by stabbing the man in the neck with a pen she was using to write in her journal. The attack was caught on surveillance video, which led to Petry's arrest.
Petry, who police say has been periodically homeless and has a prior arrest record, is being held at the Orange County Jail on $100,000 cash and $250,000 bond. He is due back in court June 22.
