Police are hunting for the gunman responsible for shooting a man in Mount Vernon Thursday night.
Cops say they rushed to an apartment building at 60 Mount Vernon Ave. after reports of shots being fired at around 9 p.m.
They found a man bleeding from wounds. Police say the victim, who is not a Mount Vernon resident, was involved in an altercation in front of Tristan's Barber Shop at 64 Mount Vernon Ave.
The 33-year-old victim was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for several gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He is currently in critical but stable condition.
Community members say shootings are uncommon in the area. "It is an isolated incident. You don't hear these things too often around here," says resident Toni Wynn.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call the Mount Vernon Police Department Detective Division at 914-665-2510.
