A man convicted in the murder of a Tarrytown woman was sentenced in Westchester County Court.
Cynell Brown, 32, of New York City, received 25 years to life for the shooting of Jessica Wiltse, 34, in Tarrytown.
In November 2022, a jury found Brown guilty of second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. They say he used a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol to shoot Wiltse two times in the chest and arm.
Wiltse was found in her Sleepy Hollow Gardens Apartment complex back in February of 2018.
A trail of clues led police to Brown as their suspect, and they apprehended him at the Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan that night.
A motive for the murder was never determined.
Wiltse's family was in court today and asked for the maximum sentence and for Brown to admit to the crime. That did not happen.
Brown was disruptive and uncooperative during the sentencing. He also stared at the family for most of the proceeding.
Even though Brown did not confess to murdering his daughter, Wiltse's father Eric says he feels he did get some closure here today. "It's my wish that God will somehow, someway, God would use that gentleman's life so some other young person will not pick up a gun and hurt somebody."
Wiltse was a mother of two young boys who are now being raised by their grandparents.
