A man died in a fire at a home in New Hempstead on Friday morning.

The fire started around 9:30 a.m. at 2 Stonehurst Court.

While most people in the neighborhood tell News 12 they did not know him, they were still upset to hear of his passing, describing it as “sad” and “devastating.”

Seven fire departments from Rockland County responded, including Hillcrest, Monsey, New City, Stony Point, Tallman, Thiells and West Haverstraw.

There is no word yet what caused the fire to start.
