A man who police say was driving a stolen car crashed on the Hutchinson River Parkway and later died after an altercation with officers.
According to police, 45-year-old Steven Kelley, of New Jersey, crashed a stolen Mitsibushi into a guard rail Monday in Pelham Manor. Police say Kelley then tried to pull the driver out of another car and was arrested. He was handed over to county police who say Kelley was combative and tried to kick out the window of the patrol car. Kelley then passed out.
An ambulance was called and life saving measures were performed but Kelley was pronounced dead at Mount Vernon Hospital. Police believe drugs were involved and say they found a crack pipe in the car. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.
