A man crashed into a house after he was shot in the back of the head while driving in Mount Vernon Friday night.
Witnesses say the 24-year-old driver of a white Dodge Challenger lost control of his vehicle at around 10 p.m., jumped the curb and crashed into a home at 160 South 10th Ave.
Police say the driver fled on foot, despite being shot while behind the wheel. The rear window of his car had been blown out by a gunshot.
A short time later, the victim was spotted walking into Mount Vernon Hospital for treatment.
Police say the car did not inflict much damage to the house, and its residents were able to return later in the night. The car was pulled from the front yard and onto a flatbed truck.
News 12 is told the driver has been released from the hospital. There is no word on whether police have identified a suspect.
