Man charged with rape after missing New Windsor teen is found

A 25-year-old man is facing rape and child sexual performance charges following the search for a missing 16-year-old girl in New Windsor.
The teenager's family reported her missing on Sept. 24, prompting a widespread search and social media effort to find her.
New Windsor police announced Saturday that the girl had been found in the Town of Newburgh after investigators followed multiple leads. Police said the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, Orange County District Attorney’s Office and City of Beacon Police Department assisted in the investigation.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to News 12 that 25-year-old Adeyemi Adegbemigun was charged with third-degree rape and promoting a sexual performance by a child.
The girl’s mother told News 12 she is grateful to the community and law enforcement for helping find her daughter and grateful that she was found physically safe. She said the family’s priority is now ensuring her daughter’s future well-being.
News 12 is not identifying the teenager or her mother because the girl is a minor and an alleged victim of a sex crime.
Prosecutors say Adegbemigun was arraigned Sept. 26 and is being held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond or $100,000 partially secured bond.
He is due back in New Windsor Town Court Wednesday as the case awaits grand jury review.
The girl’s mother also raised concerns to News 12 about what she described as a lack of communication and transparency from law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office, saying she has been calling for information about the case but has not heard back.
The District Attorney’s Office said that because of the nature of the charges, it could not provide additional details about the case.
