Neighbors in Mamaroneck near the Winged Foot Golf Club are raising concerns about a new development project.
The golf club is looking to dredge and expand the upper irrigation pond and associated improvements, including existing club property, modifications to the material storage facility. In order to do this, they're trying to obtain a Wetlands and Watercourses Permit through the town planning board.
Residents say this area already floods easily and are worried this would make it worse. They're concerned about a buildup of debris and storm water and possible toxic chemical runoff from the dredged material. "We have nothing against Winged. It's a beautiful golf course," says Janet Goff, a resident. "This is not just a little bit of runoff. This is a river."
The engineer with the project, Joe Cermele, presented an update to the planning board. The update included plans for trees and shrubs and a pipe they plan to block off that is not in use.
This will be continued to January's planning board meeting and a decision could made then.
