Mamaroneck police are testing a pilot program that seeks to improve community and police relations.
All 50 Mamaroneck police officers will have a set of cards with a QR code on it to distribute to the public. The QR code will take people to a site to provide feedback about their interaction with an officer.
"As part of the process, I did receive my own cards. I don't know how many I will be giving out for myself," says Mamaroneck Village Police Chief Sandra Diruzza.
The department has partnered with Guardian Score for the next 90 days.
"This is not about if the person liked the officer. It's about if they showed procedural justice," Diruzza explains.
Each card is unique to every incident and officer. People will scan the QR code with their phone and answer five questions. When they're done, the results go to a supervisor.
"We have one so far. Where we did receive positive feedback about that officer," Diruzza says.
It's a move that hopes to strengthen the relationship they have with the community they serve to protect.
"We do know that the police are the public and the public are the police. So, the only way that we are able to have a positive impact is by having that trust in the community," Diruzza says.
News 12 was told that once the pilot ends, the department will look at all the data and then the program would need to be added to the budget in order to be implemented.
