A melee involving dozens of teens Tuesday has prompted calls for a bigger police presence on Main Street in New Rochelle.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Main Street. Witnesses say dozens of teens were fighting in the streets, which stopped traffic. Storeowners say the fight got so bad, they had to lock their doors.
Police say at least one teen was stabbed and another was pushed through a store window during the incident. Two teens were taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
According to police, many of the teens involved were students at New Rochelle High School. They say some may belong to the street gang, the Crips.
Storeowners say since a fight at New Roc City in April, there hasn?t been much police presence on Main Street. However, they say that is where the police officers need to be.
