A man from Mahopac is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly neglecting a puppy, according to the Putnam County SPCA.

Jose Monroy brought the puppy named "Max" to a vet in East Fishkill, where doctors observed signs of severe neglect to the animal's ears and body.

Following the vet's report, Monroy was arrested by SPCA detectives.

Max is now under the care of the Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, where he is receiving the attention and treatment needed to recover.
