Long Islanders clean up after first significant snowstorm of the season

Signs of hypothermia include shivering, blue lips and fatigue.

Long Islanders are cleaning up this morning after the storm dropped several inches of snow across parts of Long Island.
According to the National Weather Service, several places in Nassau County including Roosevelt (4.1 inches) and Syosset (4 inches) saw among the highest snow totals on the Island.
Conditions improved as you moved farther east to Suffolk County, where Stony Brook (3 inches) and Mount Sinai (2.8 inches) saw less of the storm.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day began with a workout for many Long Islanders, who shoveled and cleared cars after Sunday’s snowfall.
The bitterly cold temperatures are expected to last for a few days.
Dr. Jerry Rubano, NYU Langone Health’s regional director of trauma, shared some safety tips with News 12 amid the bitter blast.
He said it’s a good idea to routinely check in with your kids and set time limits.
For example, have them come inside after a half hour outside.
