Ongoing weather-related switch and equipment trouble is causing delays and cancellations across multiple branches of the Long Island Rail Road today.
Currently, the Babylon, Far Rockaway, Hempstead, Montauk, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches are affected.
The mess comes as the MTA returned to a normal schedule today following a weekend schedule on Monday to address the impacts of Sunday's storm. Long Island's biggest storm caused several issues, ranging from congestion caused by storm cleanup, switch trouble, signal work and equipment being relocated.
Many people stayed home on Monday, so today is their first day back since the storm, and many said they were just hoping to avoid too many commuting issues.
“It’s a big impact because I’m a teacher and so I have to get into New York in case one comes in, or 100 children come in, I need to be there for them," Westbury resident and New York City teacher Maureen Jackson said. This is such a delay that it’s problematic.”
The MTA is asking riders to check their TrainTime app for the latest schedule changes.
