Long Island COVID-19 positivity spikes to over 6% as delta wave continues

Long Island's positivity rate has jumped to over 6% and the new omicron variant continues to rapidly spread.
However, doctors say much of the recent spike is blamed on the delta variant.
Long Island logged 1,786 new cases on Wednesday and one new COVID-19 death.
Public health officials say a delta wave is being seen throughout the United States with spikes in the northeast and Midwest. Record high hospitalizations are also being seen in Michigan, New Hampshire and Maine.
There are three confirmed omicron cases in Suffolk County and none in Nassau County.
