A group of politicians, pastors and parents are launching a "call to action" they hope will stem a cycle of violence in the cities of Yonkers and Mount Vernon.
State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Jim Bostic, who heads an anti-gang organization, and local clergy members say they are turning their offices into safe houses where crimes can be reported anonymously.
Five people have been killed in both Yonkers and Mount Vernon since the start of the new year, leaving many residents exasperated.
"We are saying ? that enough is enough," Bostic says.
