Local high school students explore diverse medical field

Students at Briarcliff High School are learning what it's like to be a part of the medical health field.
The Medical Career and Wellness Day allows students to interact with different parts of the field – from occupational therapy, to mental wellness and pharmaceutical careers.
This is the first time the district is teaming up with Phelps Hospital of Northwell Health for the career day.
Organizers hope that students will walk away with a greater sense of what it's like to be part of the medical field.
Superintendent Jim Kaishian says, "Most often students will think about hospital settings or the medical field and think about doctors or nurses, but it's so much more- technology, business, health, it's really extraordinary."
The event also taught students how to prevent injuries and take care of themselves.
"It's really interesting for everyone to see different types of medical fields and maybe go into one but you can also learn how to prevent different injuries and it's important to learn about their bodies and how to take care of them the best," said student Charlotte Baer.
The career day takes place all day.
