LIVE UPDATES: Hudson Valley's snow totals, Westchester exec reviews cleanup efforts

Monday's blizzard has moved out, but the cleanup is only just underway. Check back for LIVE updates from News 12's reporters and meteorologists.

10:30 p.m.: News 12 spoke to Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins about snow cleanup efforts.

10 p.m.: Plow crews plan to be out in force overnight after the historic blizzard that blanketed the Hudson Valley.

Residents in Yonkers were digging out their cars Monday evening.

"It's a lot of snow. We've been using this snowbrush, trying to wipe all the snow off and get it ready to go for tomorrow," said Yonkers resident Celine Liranzo.

Conditions improved drastically on the parkways and other roadways Monday evening. However, there are some slick patches.

Officials urge drivers to still be careful while driving.

8:30 p.m.: Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano joins News 12 live to update his city’s efforts clean up from the blizzard and how it has affected the budget. He also issued a call to car owners.

7 p.m.: The snow is over, but the threats behind the wheel are far from finished. New York Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez says the wind and freezing temps will make for even more treacherous situations, even as the snow is cleared from state roads.

6:20 p.m: Public works crews had the most work cut out for them in Irvington, where initial reports had it receiving the Hudson’s Valley’s biggest snow total — 23 inches. Click here to watch News 12's Jackie Gillis' report as the village digs out.

6:05 p.m.: Westchester’s travel ban finally expired at 6 p.m., but some people still were hitting the roads anyway.

An Uber driver in Yonkers told News 12 he was taking a customer to Stamford because he needed the money, but admitted he wasn’t sure how the drive would go.

6 p.m.: TRAVEL BAN UPDATE: The snow is letting up in Westchester County and the county's travel ban is officially over.

Roads were closed to all but essential travel (police, fire, EMS, utility/public works, media and hospital/medical personnel). Though the ban is over, officials are still asking people to remain off the roads if they can.

Plows have been out in full force but blowing snow is still impacting visibility.

5:50 p.m.: Rockland’s roads are already looking better Monday evening, but Ramapo officials are blocking off parts of Viola Road because of a snapped utility pole. Crews are currently on the scene.

5:45 p.m.: Stuck at home? So is News 12’s Lauren del Valle! She has the latest on residents digging out their homes from Mount Pleasant.

4:20 p.m.: Metro-North has announced its plans for Tuesday service — with the Hudson and Harlem lines set to run on an “enhanced weekend” schedule.

Buses will replace train service on the Wassaic branch.

Metro-North will still operate on a reduced schedule Monday night, with the Hudson Rail Link connecting bus suspended. The shuttle buses that have been substituting for the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry due to river ice will also be suspended.

Storm updates from reporters in Yonkers, Poughkeepsie and across Rockland County

3:40 p.m.: News 12’s Diane Caruso is spanning across Rockland, where she saw plows making progress on the roads with a “double-wide” maneuver. She also saw Ramapo officials helping out on the ground, pushing a stuck car.

Rockland’s travel ban ends at 5 p.m., but officials are still asking residents to stay off the roads.

3 p.m.: News 12’s Jade Nash is still seeing snow in Yonkers, and spoke to a resident who gave his ranking of the storm.

2:30 p.m.: Ben Nandy says as of Monday early afternoon, he’s seeing rough, messy conditions on the roads in Poughkeepsie.

Yonkers schools, Bee Line bus update

1:30 p.m.: Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins says Bee Line buses and Paratransit service will be suspended until Tuesday at 4:30 a.m., when operations will officially resume again.

1 p.m.: Yonkers schools will continue to be closed on Tuesday.

Mount Vernon prepares for another snowstorm

5:25 PM: The City of Mount Vernon is preparing for another round of winter weather as a major snowstorm approaches. DPW officials say mechanics have spent the week inspecting and servicing snow removal equipment to ensure everything is ready. They are confident in the city’s ability to manage the snowfall but are asking residents for patience as crews work through the city’s extensive road network. They also want to remind residents to avoid parking on emergency snow routes, street corners, and refrain from shoveling snow back into the street, which can hinder cleanup efforts.
