Wake services were held in Bronxville Thursday for a former Westchester district attorney who was remembered as a giant in law enforcement and a wonderful family man.
Carl A. Vergari passed away last weekend after suffering injuries during a fall. He leaves behind his wife, two kids and four grandchildren. Two of his grandsons took a moment from the wake to reminisce about a man who influenced so many. They said Vergari was a man of convictions and character, poise and dignity. They said he was very proud of his country, very proud to be an Italian-American and had a great love for his family.
Friends and officials from around the county came to pay their last respects to a man who was a key figure on the legal and political scene for so many years. Vergari was district attorney for 25 years, making him the longest-running DA in Westchester?s history.
