Nassau County police say a 21-year-old Lawrence man accused of shooting a crossbow at a woman is facing multiple charges.
Officers responded to a West Avenue home Friday night and found the 28-year-old victim bleeding from a laceration. They say an arrow from the crossbow grazed her face.
She was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, according to authorities.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly says the victim's ear was split in half. If the arrow had struck just a couple of inches over, "we would be talking about a homicide," Donnelly said.
Suspect Samy Sedhom was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder and multiple other offenses.
According to court documents, he was allegedly waiting in his vehicle for his sister to come home from the gym with the intention of shooting her with a hunting arrow.
Court documents also allege that he had been planning to kill her since around Christmas of 2025.
Donnelly said the motive had to do with a "brother-sister rivalry." She said the two had been fighting about the temperature in the house. "She liked to keep it cooler, he wanted it warmer," Donnelly said.
Sedhom was arraigned Sunday in Hempstead, and an order of protection was issued for his victim.
His next court date is scheduled for Wednesday.
