Lawmakers pledge to pass anti-Asian hate crime legislation at rally in Pleasantville
Lawmakers pledged to protect Asian Americans during anti-hate rally in Pleasantville Sunday.
Rep. Mondaire Jones also told the crowd he is fighting for legislation to enhance public school education about the history of the nation's diverse Asian American Pacific Islander community.
At the New York state level, Sen. Pete Harckham said lawmakers enacted $25 million to address anti-Asian hate crimes to local enforcement, prosecutors and task forces.
As far as the national level, Schumer said he is looking to introduce the first bill on the Senate floor dedicated to anti-Asian hatred and pledged that lawmakers will fight for it, and ultimately, vote on it this week.
The rally in Pleasantville is just one of several others that were organized during the past few weeks throughout Hudson Valley communities like Ardsley, Scarsdale and Bedford.
