The federal program is facing a $3 billion shortfall over the next 15 years. Leaders say it could be forced to stop accepting new enrollees if funding isn't secured by the end of next month.
"The cost of medical care has risen higher than the cost of inflation. As more and more people get sick, the program has struggled with the cost of care. That's why I'm demanding full funding for the WTCHP in any funding package that moves forward this fall," says Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D).
