Westchester County Executive George Latimer says that Gov. Andrew Cuomo has granted the county the authority to arrange with towns to waive late fees for property taxes for those going through economic hardship due to COVID-19.
 
BRIEFING NOTES:
- County Executive George Latimer signed an executive order that grants the county the authority to arrange with towns to waive late fees for property taxes for those going through economic hardship.
- The legislation authorizes towns to reduce late-payment penalties for all other town property tax payers, regardless of specific hardship qualification, by as much as 80% through July 15.
- There are 28,007 coronavirus cases in Westchester. Latimer says there are 8,221 active cases.
- There are 877 people hospitalized due to COVID-19, meaning that 10.5% of people with the virus are hospitalized.
- Latimer says 962 people in the county have died due to COVID-19.
- He says there is a 200% increase in people going to food pantries in the county.
